Gilroy, Kernan & Gilroy Introduces Wellness Program
to Help Employers Control Healthcare Costs through Healthier Employees

Helping area employers address healthcare costs by promoting a healthier work force is the focus of a new, comprehensive wellness initiative offered by the Gilroy, Kernan & Gilroy insurance agency in New Hartford.

GKG Wellness Connection provides employers with integrated wellness and disease management programs designed to help employees improve their health by addressing issues that can lead to a healthier lifestyle, ultimately controlling their employers’ healthcare costs.

The program features a personalized wellness plan designed around each worker’s particular lifestyle and health characteristics to address any health-related issues - from diet and exercise, to smoking cessation, to proper usage of an asthma inhaler and more. A tracking feature allows monitoring of an employee’s progress, and provides activity and participation reports to employers. Registered nurses are available online and via telephone to assist workers as they utilize the program.

Developed and reviewed by experts at the Duke University Medical Center and its Center for Living, the program also features online educational materials and information to provide a health risk assessment for each employee.

“The overall health of an organization’s employee population is the largest factor that drives the internal cost of its health plan benefit,” explained Gilroy, Kernan & Gilroy President Larry Gilroy. “The more healthy the population, the less expensive it is to insure them. Conversely, the less healthy the population, the more expensive it is to insure them.”
